FORT WORTH, TX, March 11, 2014 (Press-News.org) Emma Gingerich left her Amish community in Eagleville, Missouri, at the age of eighteen. Disagreeing with the beliefs of Amish traditions and upbringing, she made a personal decision that forced her to find the courage to leave the only life she'd ever known. She fled across the country to a family in Harlingen. The emotional turmoil she'd unknowingly inflict upon herself, family, and friends - gut wrenching. She was eighteen years old when she left.
Considered no longer a daughter and a sister, temporarily exiled, Emma found her freedom. Placing a priority on her education, she found a place in an "English" world. Runaway Amish: The Great Escape offers a rare glimpse into the life of a brave young woman. After settling in Texas, hoping to help others, Gingerich decided to write her memoir. Her story will appeal to a variety of readers, both young and old. Emma will sign copies of her book, March 15th at 1:00 p.m. Barnes and Noble during the Kick of Spring Writers Extravaganza Event. Barnes and Noble, The Parks at Arlington, 3881 S. Cooper St. Arlington, TX 76015. (817) 472- 7791 for details.
"Beautifully crafted and impeccably told, Emma Gingerich's memoir of her escape from the Amish into the "outside world" is simply breathtaking! Ms. Gingerich proves she's a natural storyteller despite being raised in a society replete with repression and ignorance, and as I read her story I had to keep reminding myself it wasn't a novel but a true-life experience. A powerful testament to persistence, determination, and faith, Ms. Gingerich's story is an inspiration to anyone struggling to break free of the bondage of cultural expectations and answer God's call to lead the life you were meant to live. Emma's story is truly life changing!" --David C. Hughes - Editor
