WINFIELD, KANSAS, April 11, 2014 (Press-News.org) Connie Schaefer, RN, CIC, Infection Control Professional for William Newton Hospital in Winfield, KS and professional with Kansas Infection Control Consultants (KICC), has been recognized by Worldwide Branding for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in infection prevention.

Specializing in education, surveillance, statistics, and infection prevention, Mrs. Schaefer is currently responsible for promoting Infection Preventation and Employee Health at William Newton Hospital and also by assisting other health care facilities with the Kansas Infection Control Consultants (KICC). Healthcare facilities are under scrutiny and increased expectations to avoid all healthcare acquired conditions, such as infections. Governmental and insurance regulations will not pay for hospitalizations where patients acqured these conditions or infections during the course of care. Connie, and other CIC professionals, provide services to prevent the spread of infection by collaborating with all healthcare profestionals and following infection preventative practice, such as hand hygiene and judicious use of antibiotics. Prior to joining William Newton Hospital and Kansas Infection Control Consultants for Infection Control, Ms. Schaefer worked as an RN since 1981 in a variety of nursing environments.

In addition to working as a nurse in infection prevention, Mrs. Schaefer also excels in nutrition and health promotion as a Director with Unicity, where she handles the promotion of health through nutrition and self care. Mrs. Schaefer has been married for 34 years to Pastor Scott Schaefer. They have three children and one grandchild. She attributes her success to her positive approach, and the blessings from God that she feels fortunate to have received. She became involved in her profession because of her experiences working in a critical care unit. It was there that she saw the importance of promoting good health care and prevention practices. It is impossible to highlight only one event in her past nursing career. She feels that she has been honored and blessed to care for precious people as they began their lives, and as their lives draw to a close. She has cared for and ministered to both patients and their loved ones, as well as providing needed education to other healthcare workers in infection prevention and wellness principles.

Ms. Schaefer graduated as a Registered Nurse from Bryan Memorial School of Nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska. She also earned a Certification in Infection Prevention and Control through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. She is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., and she champions the initiatives of organizations, including Unicity International, Inc. She was named VIP of the Year by Worldwide Who's Who for her outstanding achievements in 2014. She is a past officer of the Wichita Chapter of APIC, she has been a speaker at the statewide Central Plains Expo in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Mrs. Schaefer has volunteered in her church ministries, AWANA, women's ministry, worship team, and she has also done mission work.. In the years to come, Mrs. Schaefer intends to experience continued professional growth and to continue to provide her patients and coworkers with the best quality care possible.
