Executive Andreza Araujo Launches Book about Leadership in Health and Safety
2014-04-15
TAMBORE, SANTANA DE PARNAIBA, BRAZIL, April 15, 2014 (Press-News.org) Andreza Araujo has been developing her career in consumer goods multinationals located in South America over one decade. Recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in environmental, health and safety areas, the executive launches her first book in the month of April in São Paulo: "Make the Difference - Be a Leader in Health and Safety," by Nelpa Publishing House.

It is a reflection on the roles of health and safety in the corporate agenda and the people's everyday lives and the respect for life as a key issue for the existence and perpetuation of business. The work is the result of management based on the people's well-being, which considers all citizens as potential leaders in the topic at all times of life.

The book is divided in five parts. The first involves topics related to leadership, presenting the role and the importance of people who have this innate or developed characteristic. The second presents important topics on the need to establish a wholesome communication among coworkers, and all the people with whom one lives. The third part presents reflections on the essential character of a sustainable culture in health and safety. In the fourth part, a collection of productive experiences based on the management system, focuses on the prevention of accidents and the leader's actual performance. Finally, the last part provides a direct contact of the reader with actions that promote health and safety in a practical way within a consumer goods giant.

For the author, quality of life and job satisfaction are closely related to the sustainable development of a company, due to its direct connection with performance and productivity. Ms. Araujo is part of the so-called Millennium or Y Generations (born between 1980 and 1993), focused on making a positive difference in the world. She currently holds a leadership position in the health, safety and environment department at a consumer goods multinational corporation.

Throughout her career, she has been managing a series of health, safety and sustainability initiatives, such as the strategy to cope with climate change and water scarcity, and tools for measuring the company's ecological footprint, as well as implementing health and safety programs for collaborators and associates.

Ms. Araujo is an environmental diplomat from the University of Geneva and has a degree in civil engineering. She is also post-graduated in occupational safety at Campinas University, Brazil, and specialized in databases for industrial sustainability at São Paulo University, Brazil.

Ms. Araujo studied Risk Management at the International Training Center (ILO) in Turin (Italy) in 2014; health and safety leadership in Belgium in 2013, having received a degree in sustainability studies from IMD Business School in 2012, she participated in the New Earth Leaders Program (The Netherlands, South Africa and Brazil) in 2010, she received a master's degree in environmental diplomacy from the University of Geneva in 2009; she was part of the Sustainability Leadership Program at the Oregon University (USA, 2008), and holds a master's degree in safety engineering from UNICAMP (Brazil, 2008), in addition to a degree in civil engineering from Anhanguera School in 2004.

Highlights of her career include leading an H&S agenda and attaining a 92-percent reduction in accidents in five years, implementing a traceability schedule for sustainability in agricultural products, and spearheading initiatives to create new uses for post-consumer waste, which culminated in the construction of two plastic houses. Other milestones include providing coaching to 600 leaders from diverse areas who lead by health and safety.

Throughout her career, she has written articles on topics such as air quality management and construction waste management. She has developed manuals on environmental scorecards, recycling and selective collection of industrial waste, and participated in a great number of courses and seminars on topics related to sustainable development.

Ms. Araujo has 12 years of professional experience, with six years as an EHS and sustainability executive at a multinational foods and beverage company. Over the years, she has established herself as an expert in safety engineering, environmental management systems, energy efficiency, supply chain management, and lean manufacturing. On a daily basis, she is responsible for leading initiatives dealing with safety, health and environmental issues. She also has an advisory role within the company, coaching, mentoring, and counseling employees. Ms. Araujo manages a series of sustainable development initiatives such as the strategy to cope with climate change and water scarcity, and tools for measuring the company's ecological footprint; leading a series of initiatives on agro-sustainability to integrate the United Nations Organization's Private Sector Initiative (PSI) database, which presents good practices of private companies for the adaptation to climate changes.

Looking back, Ms. Araujo attributes her success to her faith, courage and hard work. She became involved in her profession because she wanted to be a leader in coaching, mentoring and counseling related to sustainability, health and safety.

She was recently inducted into Worldwide Branding and she is also a member of the American Counseling Association, Brasil Vagas Executivas, the Dubai Business Network, Ecomondo, Eco-Business, the Brazilian Association of Engineering and Value Analysis, and the Global Reporting Initiative. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, she was awarded a Green Apple Award in 2013, and she has been given three leadership awards from a multinational foods and beverage company. Besides her work in the private sector, she addresses the needs and the great challenges the planet is facing, and all this change brings a new set of needs and expectations, which outlines a new professional profile that is much more attentive to environmental issues and capable of praising strengths and detecting vulnerabilities, thus transforming problems into great opportunities for improvement by creating and strengthening the environmental culture in companies. She believes it is up to these new professionals to keep seeking a transformative action for a new production paradigm and influencing more people toward a more harmonious coexistence with the environment.
