LateRooms.com - Deftones Set to Rock Berlin's Columbiahalle

Berlin's Columbiahalle venue is due to stage a concert by US rock heavyweights Deftones on December 2nd.

2010-11-18
BERLIN, GERMANY, November 18, 2010 (Press-News.org) Heavy metal fans will be flocking to Berlin hotels for next month's Deftones concert at the Columbiahalle.

The US rockers are due to perform in the German capital on December 2nd, when they will play tracks from recent album Diamond Eyes, their sixth long-player.

Formed in California, Deftones rose to prominence in the mid-1990s as part of the alternative scene that became known as 'nu-metal'.

Alongside bands such as Korn and Limp Bizkit, the group fused heavy metal guitar sounds with influences from the hip-hop world to create a fresh and exciting brand of rock music.

However, the versatility of frontman Chino Moreno's vocals, which can shift suddenly from an anguished scream to a melodic croon, helped to set Deftones apart from their peers.

The band built up a devoted fan base with the release of their first two albums, Adrenaline (1995) and Around the Fur (1997).

White Pony, their third record, emerged in 2000 and was praised by critics for blending new influences with their trademark sound.

Fans can expect to hear songs from each of these albums, as well as 2003's self-titled effort and Saturday Night Wrist from 2006, when Deftones take to the stage in Berlin.

The group and their fans were left reeling in November 2008, when bassist Chi Cheng entered a coma after being involved in a serious car accident.

He was released from intensive care in May 2009 and is believed to be making a gradual recovery. Deftones have brought in bassist Sergio Vega, a close friend of the band, to stand in for Cheng in the meantime.

Tickets for the Berlin concert, which is due to begin at 20:00, are currently priced at EUR36.30 (GBP30.80).
