KYOTO, JAPAN, December 24, 2010 (Press-News.org) Seijin No Hi is a national holiday and marks the coming of age for young Japanese adults who have reached the age of 20. Celebrations are held in the city in order to congratulate the young adults on reaching the age of majority and to help them to realize that they have become adults.
The occasion has been celebrated throughout Japan since 714AD after a young prince wore new robes and adopted a new hairstyle to mark his coming of age.
Local city offices will hold ceremonies in the morning of 10 January 2010 where all young adults who turn 20 between 1st April 2010 and 31st March 2011 will attend. Here they will attend in formal dress with women wearing a traditional Japanese furisode. They will receive gifts and take part in a ceremony which recognizes their expanded rights and increased responsibilities of adulthood.
Many young Japanese will be checking into cheap Kyoto hotels where the carnival atmosphere will be in full swing during the public holiday.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, commented: "The occasion is very special to young Japanese adults and many will head to the city of Kyoto to celebrate in the carnival atmosphere. Visitors should check availability of hotels in the city before they leave to avoid disappointment."
