SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, December 29, 2010 (Press-News.org) Sunseekers staying in Sydney hotels on Australia Day 2011 should head down to Bondi Beach and get involved in the annual Havaianas Thong Challenge.
The event has been held every January 26th since 2006 and sees thousands of people descend on sandy stretches across the country in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest line of inflatable airbeds.
On the inaugural occasion, Sydneysiders and people who had taken advantage of last minute hotel deals to stay in the area set the bar high with a total of 863.
But this total has gone on to be smashed year after year, with the defending champions - West Australia (WA) - managing to get 1,301 people on airbeds to paddle into the ocean at Cottesloe Beach and link hands last time the event took place.
New South Wales will undoubtedly be keen to win back the title, but the state may need the help of guests at cheap hotels in Sydney if it is to beat off stiff competition from WA, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
As well as the world record attempt, those who head down to Bondi Beach for Australia Day will be able to enjoy a series of fun races, plus music sets.
For more information on this event, visit the Havaianas Thong Challenge website.
