Dr. Arnon Krongrad discusses surgery for chronic prostatitis with the Talking About Men's Health blog

Dr. Arnon Krongrad discusses surgery for chronic prostatitis with the Talking About Men's Health blog.

2010-09-02
WASHINGTON, DC, September 02, 2010 (Press-News.org) Dr. Arnon Krongrad, urologist and founder of the Krongrad Institute, is contributing an article about chronic prostatitis on the Talking About Men's Health blog. The mission of Talking About Men's Health is to provide a platform for discussion on men, boys, and family health issues. The blog is authored by a range of health professionals and is a partner of Men's Health Network.

In his post, which comes during both Prostate Awareness Month and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month (September), Dr. Krongrad discusses chronic prostatitis as an under-discussed topic in the dialogue relating to men's health issues. Prostatitis, which is the inflammation of the prostate gland, can be either acute or chronic. While acute prostatitis is a bacterial infection, is treated by antibiotics, and most often stops recurring, chronic prostatitis is much different.

Chronic prostatitis patients experience frequent episodes of sustained pain and the symptoms often lead to fatigue, depression, and muddled thoughts. "Because of its debilitating effects, chronic prostatitis interferes with professional responsibilities and with personal relationships; it has been blamed for social isolation, divorce, and lack of employment."

After one of Dr. Krongrad's chronic prostatitis patients successfully recovered - completely asymptomatic and fully functional - from laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, which is the removal of the prostate gland, Dr. Krongrad and his team at The Krongrad Institute are currently conducting a clinical trial to quantify the effects of the procedure.
