2011-01-07
DOYLESTOWN, PA, January 07, 2011 (Press-News.org) Bencardino Excavating of Bensalem, Pa., has begun work on the Richland Township Solar Energy project, a joint venture, between Richland Township and the Richland Township Water Authority. The solar energy project is located in Quakertown, Pa., and is being funded under the Recovery Act's green energy initiative with $500,000 of Pennsylvania's allocated stimulus funds. It will support efforts to lower energy costs for local businesses and families.
Bencardino Excavating was hired by Carr & Duff, Inc., one of Philadelphia's leaders in the electrical / data construction industry, to oversee excavation for all of the new electric solar panels, installation of eight inches of stone and new fencing around the solar field, and completion of final landscaping. The excavating crew, led by foreman Greg Davis, cleared three acres of land and added 2,000 yards of cuts and fills.

"We are proud to contribute to green initiatives like the Richland Solar Energy project, which will ultimately benefit local families and businesses. It is part of our company's vision to deliver quality service to our clients while furthering our socially and environmentally conscious business model," said Lou Bencardino, owner of Bencardino Excavating.

According to Pennsylvania's Stimulus Oversight Commission, "the project will use 1,350 PV solar panels installed on adjustable arrays adjacent to the building to generate about 426,275 kilowatt hours per year, save $59,675 per year, and generate $119,346 in renewable energy credits."
