Land Rover Races Plane and Wins at Phuket Andaman Air Show 2011

The Phuket Andaman Air Show returned to Phuket this week. A crowd of over four hundred turned out to see the flying aerobatics, not to mention the Miss Airpark 2011 bikini competition.

2011-01-22
SINGAPORE, January 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Phuket Andaman Air Show was back in Phuket this week with a crowd of over four hundred onlookers enjoying the aerobatics.

The event, held at Phuket Airpark, marked a special celebration in honour of the extension of the Phuket Airpark runway, to a length of eight hundred metres.

There was plenty for everyone to see from heart-stopping aerobatics to a Miss Phuket Airpark competition featuring fourteen bikini-clad hopefuls.

In a scene more familiar with UK television show Top Gear, a Land Rover raced a Zenair plane, which flew only ten metres above.

The Land Rover won, to critical acclaim, in what may be a world first.

Now in its second year, the Phuket Andaman Air Show allowed aviation enthusiasts to get a close look inside several aircraft.

Ten planes from both Malaysia and Thailand flew in especially for the event.

There was also an aerobatics show performed by the world renowned Les Vorosmarthy in his three hundred and fifty horse power German built 'Extra 300 L' plane.

The Air show also provided fun for all the family with airplane rides, canoe races, Thai dancing and a barbeque.

Attending the event was the Phuket Flying Club president, Captain Watana Thinphanga, who also lent a hand in judging the Miss Phuket Bikini 2011 competition.

Sponsors of the Phuket Air show were Land Rover, Bikini Banana, Pattaya Airpark, Movenpick and The Phuket Gazette.
