KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA, January 28, 2011 (Press-News.org) The world-renowned Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will perform two shows under the title The Big Bs towards the end of next month.
Set to take place on February 26th and 27th 2011, the concerts at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas will involve performances of Anton Bruckner's Symphony Number Nine and Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem.
Although Bruckner's ninth and final symphony was left incomplete when he died, the MPO have described it as "one of the masterpieces of the late 19th century symphonic repertoire".
And while Sinfonia da Requiem - Britten's only symphony - was rejected by the Japanese government as a celebratory piece to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Far East nation's empire, the composer went on to "dominate English music" in the 20th century, the orchestra claimed.
Classical music lovers who step out from their Kuala Lumpur hotels for one of these shows will therefore be able to look forward to hearing two important and impressive pieces, directed by Claus Peter Flor.
The Saturday February 26th performance will take place at 20:30 local time, with tickets ranging in price from 25 to 95 Malaysian ringgits (GBP5 to GBP19).
Admission to the Sunday February 27th concert costs between 20 and 85 Malaysian ringgits, with the MPO set to take to the stage at 15:00.
For more information on this event, visit the MPO website or contact the venue on (+60) 3 2051 7008.
