PARIS, FRANCE, March 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) Thousands of runners will hit the streets of the French capital for the Paris Marathon next month.

The race takes place on April 10th and sees participants begin the challenge on the iconic Champs-Elysees.

Bastille, Nation and Les Tuileries are just some of the famous landmarks people will pass during the 42.195-kilometre course.

Those keen to pick up some new jogging gear can attend the specially organised Running Expo between April 7th and 9th.

The free event is taking place at the Parc des Expositions de Paris.

Registration for the main race is closed, but people can still watch the action and cheer on those brave enough to attempt a full marathon.

The first wave of the 40,000 registered runners will get going at 08:45 local time, the organisers have confirmed.

Last year, the men's and women's events were won by the Ethiopians Tadesse Tola and Atsede Basya.

They finished in an impressive 2:06.41 and 2:22.04 respectively.
