ATLANTA, GA, March 26, 2011 (Press-News.org) Scott Wimmer went into the Scotts EZ Seed 300 at Bristol this past weekend with a great deal of confidence, and for good reason. Not only is Bristol one of Wimmers favorite tracks, but his results speak for themselves. Wimmer would again show what he can do on the famed circuit qualifying in the Top-20 in a field littered with Sprint Cup drivers, and just over one tenth of a second off a Top-10 start.
As the green flag dropped, Wimmer, in his customary fashion, carefully picked his spots to overtake and preserve his #40 PREVAL/Anderson's Maple Syrup Key Motorsports Chevrolet Impala. He soon found himself battling within the Top-15. Restart after restart the Wausau, Wisconsin native would overcome spots lost in the pits to consistently run top times and put him in position for a late run. Unfortunately late in the race Danica Patrick would hit the wall, and as she slid back down the track she came into Wimmers driving line and in what some could consider being his best move of the race spun himself to keep from hitting Patricks' mangled #7 JR Motorsports machine.
Wimmer would suffer only minor damage to the rear of the car as he was hit by another car, but most importantly lost several positions fixing the damage to take him outside the Top-20 with little time to make up spots for a solid points finish. As it was, Wimmer would finish 22nd, and with eight Cup drivers finishing ahead of him, still managed a strong points race and made up three spots in the overall Drivers Championship, now in 20th position. On the season Wimmer, although having two DNF's in four races, is doing a great job with what he has to work with as evidenced by his driver rating and the rating of his pass differential on the track. Thus far, out of the 45 drivers that have collected points on the season, only Reed Sorenson has a better pass differential on the season. Add that with the 19 drivers that are not eligible to collect points, making the total number of drivers to start a race this season at 64, only four total have a better differential than Wimmer!
Two new Marketing Partners to the Key Motorsports team were introduced in the race. They are professional grade spray gun manufacturer PREVAL, based out of Chicago, IL and Wisconsin's Anderson's Maple Syrup. Key Motorsports owner Curtis Key was happy to have both companies on board this past weekend and looks forward to working with them again during the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.
"We have good cars this year, Key Motorsports has done a good job putting some good cars under me," said Scott Wimmer. "The team is working now on just getting a little more power out of the engines and getting our pit stops a little better. Even where we are, if it wasn't for the two DNF's we'd easily be in the Top-15 in points." Wimmer continues; "I know we're a Top-15 team, and the season is still young, we're just looking to put it all together," continued Wimmer. "Having two new sponsors on board this weekend, we really wanted to put on a good show for them. Getting sponsors like them on board is what is going to get our team over that hump to start competing for Top-10's on a consistent basis."
