LateRooms.com - Pere Ubu to Perform Classic Album in Dusseldorf

Pere Ubu are set to play The Modern Dance in full at a Dusseldorf show in May.

2011-03-30
DUSSELDORF, GERMANY, March 30, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dusseldorf's Zakk venue will host a special gig by experimental rockers Per Ubu later this year.

The American band are due to perform their seminal debut album The Modern Dance in its entirety at the club on Wednesday May 11th.

Released in 1978, the LP quickly became a cult classic and was widely praised by critics, who lauded the LP's innovative take on traditional garage rock.

It is now frequently cited as one of the most influential recordings in underground rock music.

The group have titled their upcoming European tour The Annotated Modern Dance, as the shows will also include the series of early singles released on their own record label, Hearpen.

In addition, each song will be preceded by a brief anecdote from the band.

Pere Ubu's Dusseldorf date will be the first night of the tour, so anticipation among fans in the German city is likely to be particularly high.

Formed in Cleveland, Ohio, the band started as a one-off studio project for some of the city's musicians but soon took on a life of its own.

A large number of members have arrived and departed over the years, with singer David Thomas the only constant presence in Pere Ubu.

Known for his distinctive vocal delivery and surreal lyrics, the cult figure has also released several solo albums.

Tickets for the gig in Dusseldorf are available to buy online, priced at EUR18 (GBP15.80).

Fans considering a Dusseldorf hotel stay can browse a wide range of accommodation at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Relexa Hotel Ratingen City.
