LONDON, ENGLAND, April 08, 2011 (Press-News.org) Londoners are more content in their jobs than workers anywhere else in the UK, according to new research from leading job site, reed.co.uk.
The survey of 5,000 workers across the UK, including 1,000 from the capital, revealed that those working in the capital are happiest in their current jobs.
Asked how they felt about their jobs, 54% of Londoners said they were happy with their current work situation compared to 48% of the rest of the UK. While 24% of Londoners admitted they were likely to do a new job search soon, which remains 3% below the national average.
Martin Warnes, Managing Director of reed.co.uk, commented by saying: "In spite of the rising cost of living, the fragile economic recovery and an uncertain jobs market, nearly half of UK workers are happy in their jobs.
Warnes went on further to say "With less than a quarter of us admitting we'd like a new job, the impact of the downturn on our work appears to have made many of us value our jobs more, and even make us happier."
Nevertheless, the lure of improved pay and prospects is tempting, particularly for ambitious workers in the Capital: almost 44% of Londoners conceded that having a higher salary would improve their happiness.
At the same time, over 77% of workers who have jobs in London are looking to switch sectors, with most citing career advancement (53%) as their reason to move. Other important factors contributing to job satisfaction include a nicer work environment (27%), job security (25%) and flexible working hours (18%).
