The Great American Shoe Drive Gives Shoes to Hillsides Children

Partnering with Footwear News, Sole4Souls created the Great American Shoe Drive with the goal of distributing thousands of pairs of shoes to vulnerable men, women and children in more than twenty cities.

2010-09-10
PASADENA, CA, September 10, 2010 (Press-News.org) Children living at Hillsides, a foster care children's charity, were the recipients of new shoes donated by The Great American Shoe Drive. Partnering with Footwear News, Sole4Souls created the Great American Shoe Drive with the goal of distributing thousands of pairs of shoes to vulnerable men, women and children in more than twenty cities.

The shoe drive began in Salt Lake City, UT, headed to Las Vegas, NV and arrived to Los Angeles to distribute shoes to the children who were waiting to greet them. Silvana and Allan Clark, a married couple employed by Soles4Souls, drive a recreational vehicle across county and donate the shoes given away.

"We adopted our daughter when she was eight years old so I have a soft spot in my heart for children who are older looking for homes," said S. Clark, who found Hillsides on the Internet when she was researching children's charities in Los Angeles.

"We were excited to hear Hillsides was the child welfare organization selected in Los Angeles," said Joseph Costa, Hillsides chief executive officer. "Being supported by organizations like Sole4Souls give us an opportunity to meet the needs of the children we serve and direct other funds in offering programs that create safe places for them and their families."

Displaying numerous shoes in the charity's auditorium, the Clarks along with Hillsides' staff, treated each child at Hillsides as a customer, helping them try on shoes. Each child walked away with a pair of shoes, a pair of sandals, and a big smile.

To learn more about the children's charity and how your organization or business can help the children, visit http://www.Hillsides.org.

As a Pasadena charity founded in 1913, Hillsides creates safe places for children in foster care living in its residential treatment center and is a community treatment center preventing the cycle of abuse for children at risk and their families.
