The Woodshed Gallery in Franklin, MA (Metro West Boston) is hosting a public reception for accomplished artist Bruce Wood of Franklin on Saturday, April 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. The exhibition will be on display from April 11 through May 7, 2011.

2011-04-09
FRANKLIN, MA, April 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Woodshed Gallery is presenting the work of outstanding Franklin artist Bruce Wood in a solo exhibition of acrylic paintings and oil monotypes of New England. The exhibition starts Tuesday April 11 and continues through Saturday May 7, 2011.

A public reception for Bruce Wood will be held Saturday, April 16, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

Bruce Wood is known as a contemporary American Impressionist painter and an avant-garde filmmaker. This exhibition features a new series of acrylic paintings of Massachusetts coastal scenes and oil monotype paintings based on flowers and landscapes.

His work depicts traditional subjects, but the style of painting is a modern adaptation of early 20th Century Impressionism. His paintings have a strong sense of rhythm which is influenced by music. The surfaces are heavily painted in a loose and lyrical style, and a skillful interaction of colors creates a pleasant sensation in viewers.

Bruce Wood explains, "I have a strong interest in film, and how the combination of sound and image can be quite powerful. Paintings, however, have no sound. So I rely on visual rhythm and color vibration to synthesize an audio-visual effect which is both soothing and energetic. This has been quite successful. Two women so far have told me that they used my paintings as focal points while giving birth."

Bruce Wood is the son of acclaimed local artist Angelina Wood, but has had a career centered around his own galleries in Chicago and Michigan. Recently he moved back to Franklin and has assumed directorship of the Woodshed Gallery, which Angelina started in 1968.

He received a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and went on to get an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His fine art has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. He wrote and directed a feature-length motion picture, The Door, which is distributed on DVD by Amazon.com. Locally, he is a member of the Cape Cod Art Association, The Lyme Art Association, and the Franklin Art Association.

This exhibition is part of a Woodshed Gallery program designed to let Metro-West residents view world-class art by their neighbors. The professional gallery setting has been compared to the best exhibition spaces in Boston.

The Woodshed Gallery was founded in 1968 by the late professional artist Angelina Wood, and continues to be a family-run business. They specialize in conservation picture framing and the exhibition of original fine art. The Woodshed Gallery also shows a selection of hand-crafted jewelry.

The Woodshed Gallery is located at 1243 Pond Street, Franklin, MA, near the Medway
border. Gallery hours are Tuesdays thru Fridays, 10AM-5PM, Saturdays 10AM-3PM.

Examples of art in the show and directions to the gallery can be found on The Woodshed
Gallery's web site. Go to http://www.WoodshedGallery.com
