Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Pro Internet Security Earns Prestigious VB100 Award

Lavasoft's flagship product, Ad-Aware Pro Internet Security has been awarded the esteemed VB100 award from Virus Bulletin, the highly respected independent comparative testing group.

2010-08-15
GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN, August 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) Well-known anti-spyware pioneer Lavasoft today announced that their flagship product Ad-Aware Pro Internet Security has been awarded the esteemed VB100 award from Virus Bulletin, the highly respected independent comparative testing group. In a comparative review published in Virus Bulletin's August issue, Ad-Aware achieved one of the top results for malware detection.
Virus Bulletin independently tests anti-virus products and those products which pass the tests are awarded the VB100. The review covers a range of criteria, including detection rates, scanning speed, design and usability, and performance. This time, 54 popular anti-virus products participated in the test that was conducted on a Windows Vista Business Edition platform.
Ad-Aware successfully detected 100% of the viruses from Virus Bulletin's "WildList" collection without creating a single false positive. The "WildList" is a list compiled by the WildList Organization of real world malware reported during the past month. Viruses are generally categorized as "in the wild" when they are spreading as a result of normal day-to-day activities of unsuspecting computer users. This time, a large part of the "WildList" consisted of social networking and online gaming data stealers. Ad-Aware also scored highly by detecting nearly every one of the samples of trojans, worms, bots and polymorphic threats.
"Millions of computer users across the globe put their trust in Ad-Aware to protect their PC's from viruses, spyware and rootkits. Receiving an award such as this, from one of the best independent test-organizations, confirms that Ad-Aware provides an industry-leading defense against today's cyber threats," says Johnny Widerlund, CTO at Lavasoft.
Another aspect to the review includes the Reactive and Proactive (RAP) test. RAP testing measures a product's detection abilities against the most recent malware - and puts the product's heuristics and generic techniques to the test. According to Virus Bulletin, "RAP (Reactive and Proactive) testing provides deeper insight into products' ability to keep up with the flood of new malware emerging around the world..."
With an overall RAP score of 89.3%, and by receiving the second to highest score in the proactive test, Ad-Aware out-performed the vast majority of the software tested. The results place Ad-Aware in the upper range among all the ranked anti-virus products, well above many of the top competitors.
