GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA, April 20, 2011 (Press-News.org) Australia and New Zealand will meet in a rugby league fixture on the Gold Coast for the first time ever at the start of next month.
The clash between the two bitter rivals was originally scheduled to take place in Christchurch, but was moved to the Queensland resort following the earthquake that hit New Zealand earlier this year.
Fans can expect to witness a closely-fought contest between New Zealand - the current World Cup and Four Nations champions - and an Australian team that features big names such as Darren Lockyer, Johnathan Thurston and Greg Inglis.
"There is a proud sporting rivalry between our two nations and we have witnessed some enthralling matches in the past few years," said Australian Rugby League chief executive Geoff Carr in a statement.
The match will be held at the Gold Coast's Skilled Park stadium on May 6th 2011. Ticket prices start at AU$30, although a family of two adults and two children can get in for the discounted rate of AU$80.
Kickoff is scheduled for 20:00 local time.
Rugby league fans planning to stay in Gold Coast accommodation and watch the historic clash can visit LateRooms.com.au and choose from a wide and varied selection of cheap accommodation near the stadium.
