Electronic Cigarettes Gaining Wider Acceptance

Electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, e-cigs, whatever you choose to call them, are becoming more common every day. More people are learning the benefits they have over traditional cigarettes and now how much less the cost too.

2011-04-21
WINTER PARK, FL, April 21, 2011 (Press-News.org) Electronic cigarettes, e-cigarettes, e-cigs, whatever you choose to call them, are becoming more common every day. This burgeoning product is starting to become mainstream as more and more people, smokers and non smokers alike, are learning the benefits of a smokeless cigarette. Many smokers have felt like pariahs for many years. Increasingly invasive bans on public smoking in places like bars, restaurants, night clubs, arenas, stadiums, private businesses and even some outdoor areas near public spaces have forced smokers to extreme measures to get their nicotine fix.

"I never wanted to use chew, but it just got harder and harder to get my nicotine while at work" says a deputy with a Florida Sheriff's Office who preferred not to be named. He continued "I want to serve my community, but I don't want to get mouth cancer doing it". For many, electronic cigarettes have provided a much needed alternative to traditional cigarettes and nicotine sources. "I work on engines and all the guys down here like it better. With no flame and no smoke we don't have to worry about starting a fire" said Grant T. a diesel mechanic. "I like to use them at work when we are busy and can't get a break. I just grab a quick puff or two and get back to it" says Chase R., a technician for Coin Free Inc. "I still like smoking (cigarettes) but sometimes you just can't ... See, I'm from South Carolina and a state law banned all smoking in bars ... so when I'm back home, I take my Nic-Stix electronic cigarette everywhere I go".

When asked what people thought of his electronic cigarette he had this to say. "I think it's better ... my Parents don't really care for my smoking, so when I came home last time and showed it off, they were actually kind of happy about it ... I even used it on the flight home". When asked how non smokers felt about his 'vaping' on the plane, he responded "It was fun really, as soon as I broke it out, the stewardess started running up to tell me I couldn't smoke, but halfway to my seat she realized something was off, since it didn't smell like a cigarette. Basically she asked me some questions, since she hadn't heard about it, but then said it was fine ... it didn't bother anyone around me and actually people thought it was really cool ... It turns out the lady in the seat next to me was a smoker too and I kinda had to talk her into trying it, but man, once she did, I had a hard time getting it back."

When asked about switching to electronic cigarettes full time, he had this to say. "Yeah, I would, probably should, I mean all that tar and nasty stuff... but there are just some times when you really want a cigarette. I like to think every time I choose to use my e-cig, I'm saving a quarter, and you know, it really adds up. See, cigarettes are like $6 a pack around here and my e-cig is only like a dollar something for the same nicotine as a pack. So I save around 25 cents each time I use it instead of a cigarette. I did the math, if I went to the e-cigarette full time, I would save like 1800 bucks a year. "

In a recent interview, the owner of Nic-Stix, an electronic cigarette supplier, had this to say "I think electronic cigarettes have finally arrived." Nic-Stix seems to be the lowest cost provider of electronic cigarettes. When asked why he got into the business, he said "A lot of people smoke and as more smokers have learned they have a new option in electronic cigarettes, volume has helped us all reduce cost. I originally got into this business because my father in law smokes and wanted to quit, but just couldn't. It was a classic case, he had tried everything. So I had heard about nicotine vaporizers before and did some research. I figured if he wasn't going to quit, he should at least use something without all that junk in it. Well, I went direct to the inventing company in China and it was still $70 or more for a starter kit and the refills cost more than regular cigarettes too. So I waited awhile and kept my eyes open and sure enough the prices came down. I noticed even though the prices should be lower here, all the American companies I could find were charging prices even higher prices than I found years before. That's when I decided to provide a lower cost product that works just as well. We can get people all they need to switch for around $20 now, which is a much lower barrier to entry. That's also why I think electronic cigarettes are just now ready to become mainstream. They are becoming much cheaper than cigarettes, and in many ways are superior." When asked why his products cost so much less, he states "Most guys come in with the idea they should charge as much as they can get away with. The thing is, most of the reason regular cigarettes cost so much is taxes. The government loves villainzing smokers so they can constantly raise cigarette taxes. This is putting all their new vote buying programs and expenses on the backs of said smokers. Right now, we don't have to charge that for the ecigs, so we can give people the nicotine they need for a lot less. Frankly there is no reason to charge any more."
