SEVILLE, SPAIN, May 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Guiseppe Verdi's classic opera Don Carlo will be performed at the famous Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville this summer.
Set against the turbulent backdrop of 16th century Spain, the work was based on a drama by influential German philosopher and playwright Friedrich Schiller.
It will be performed in the Andalusian capital on Friday June 24th, Monday June 27th, Thursday June 30th and Sunday July 3rd.
First staged in 1867, the opera deals with the conflicts faced by Spanish heir Don Carlos, who is dismayed to find that his father Philip II is due to marry his beloved, Elisabeth of Valois, for political reasons.
Don Carlo is known for being Verdi's longest opera and can be presented in several different versions, as a large number of cuts and revisions were made to the work after its initial performance.
This new version at the Seville venue will see singers Fiorenza Cedolins, Dolora Zajick, Angel Odena and Walter Fraccaro perform with the city's Royal Symphonic Orchestra.
Tickets for the opera are priced between EUR38 and EUR93 (GBP33.70 and GBP82.50), depending on where in the theatre people choose to sit.
LateRooms.com recommends a wide variety of accommodation in Seville for opera lovers to choose from, including the Hotel Don Paco Seville.
