Metro Health Hospital has named Carol Jones its 2011 Nurse Exemplar.

2011-05-14
GRAND RAPIDS, MI, May 14, 2011 (Press-News.org) Metro Health Hospital has named Carol Jones its 2011 Nurse Exemplar.

The award is given annually to recognize a registered nurse involved in direct patient care at Metro Health who has demonstrated exceptional nursing practice. Candidates are nominated by their peers. Metro's Professional Nursing Council evaluates nominations based on the nurse's ability to deliver outstanding care, stimulate critical thinking in her or her peers, provide continuous assistance, serve as a mentor and positively influence the work of the entire healthcare team.

Jones joined Metro Health in 1993 and currently works as a clinical coordinator in the Medical Surgical Alticor Pediatric Department. She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Grand Valley State University in 1994 and holds a certification in medical/surgical nursing from the Academy of Medical- Surgical Nurses.

Her nomination form noted: "Carol is a seasoned nurse and clinical expert. She is frequently sought out for assistance, a second RN consult and her knowledge of specific patient populations. This nurse provides intentional and unintentional mentorship to her peers and newer nurses. She has a vast amount of knowledge about clinical nursing practice but also the experience of being in a supervisory role.

"She is continuously working towards optimizing patient outcomes and making the nursing processes at Metro more efficient without jeopardizing patient safety. Jones is a happy, positive, and cheerful person, and her patients appreciate the persona that she exudes in her daily patient care."

Jones resides in Kent City with husband, Brian, and children, Lauren and Evan.
