Contiki Vacations Sponsors "Ocean Inspiration" Event Honoring Jacques Cousteau's 100th Anniversary
2011-05-15
ANAHEIM, CA, May 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) In celebration of the 100th anniversary of legendary ocean diver Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Contiki Vacations is proud to be an official sponsor of "Ocean Inspiration," a two-day gala event where explorers, filmmakers, scientists, dancers, artists, musicians, family, and friends will come together to celebrate the life and work of Captain Cousteau. The event organizer, adventurer and filmmaker Celine Cousteau, is the grand-daughter of the influential oceanographer. Cousteau has recently partnered with Contiki as their Sustainability Partner, to help educate their travelers and staff about environmental issues, particularly marine ecosystems (www.contiki.com/celinecousteau).

When asked why Celine Cousteau created this event, she said, "The best tribute that I can give my grandfather is to unite the people who have drawn inspiration from him, those who have an abiding respect for our oceans and are exemplary ocean advocates."

"Contiki is thrilled to promote ocean advocacy and work with Celine to raise awareness about preservation of the world's oceans," said Dave Hosking, Managing Director of Contiki Vacations. "This exciting event is not only a tribute to Jacques Cousteau's achievements, but it also provides inspiration for Contiki to carry on his legacy through our very own sustainability initiatives and programs."

The event will be held on May 18 in New York and on May 20 in Washington D.C., featuring film, music, arts, exhibits, and an awards ceremony for the ocean community. The event is open to the public and a portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the World Resources Institute's Reefs at Risk Initiative. (www.wri.org/project/reefs-at-risk).
