United States University, San Diego Moves to New Campus

New State-of-the-Art Site in Chula Vista Reflects Growth in Enrollment and Employment

2011-05-18
SAN DIEGO, CA, May 18, 2011 (Press-News.org) United States University, San Diego, a student-centered institution for working adults, announced it has moved from its original location in National City to a new campus in Chula Vista. Located at 830 Bay Boulevard, the 30,000 square foot campus is being lauded as an architectural showpiece and provides more space for an institution that has experienced a 400% increase in enrollment since January, 2010.

"We are excited about the new campus in Chula Vista," said Dr. Yoram Neumman, the president and chief executive officer of United States University. "The new location is not only magnificent in its design, the larger space allows us to continue to keep the size of our classes small so students can get one-on-one academic attention. Our enrollment has increased due to the quality of education we provide, the cost of tuition is lower than other universities in Southern California, and our application process isn't complicated."

"The new campus is a new paradigm for higher education," said Tom Finaly, the chief operating officer of United States University. "There's no other University campus like this in the world. It's green, energy efficient, and promotes a vibrant environment for education."

Design of the new campus took more than a year. The prior use was 6,000 square feet of office space with a 24,000 sq. ft. warehouse. "It is a complete transformation from an industrial use to a first class school facility," said Jeff Silberman, the president and chief executive officer of Carleton Management, the property manager. Transforming the building involved the efforts of more than 100 construction workers. "Caliber Construction is proud to have been involved in the construction of United States University's San Diego campus," said Doug Bassett, president of Caliber Construction. "We wish them much success in this beautiful facility."

The new campus features classrooms and offices with high ceilings, several laboratories and a theater-style auditorium that seats more than 100. The entire facility is bathed in natural light. "We were able to fill the building with natural light by replacing the warehouse truck doors with large windows and installing 48 Solatube skylights, many of which are equipped with dimmers so that classrooms can be darkened for video presentations," said Jennifer Roberts, principal of Roberts Bennett Norton (RBN Design. "And the building is vibrant with color, not only on the walls, but there are floating clouds of color at the ceiling and swirling colorful patterns on the floor."

The facility is getting rave reviews from students and community leaders. "After taking the tour of the new state-of-the-art campus, it makes me look forward to the future with confidence in my endeavors pertaining to my education," said Noah Zapata of Santee, a B.A. Management student.

"The City of Chula Vista welcomes United States University," said Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox. "The new campus will encourage new jobs and more educational opportunities for students in the South Bay."

United States University (USU) has brought 42 new jobs to Chula Vista and is currently looking to fill several full and part-time faculty positions. USU is accredited by Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). United States University offers degree programs in Nursing, Health Sciences, Education, Spanish, Business Administration and Management, and General Studies. In addition, USU offers online M.B.A., B.A. in Management, and B.S. in Health Science degree programs.

Class schedules are designed with working adults in mind. Classes are offered at night and on weekends to make it easier to complete programs and graduate. Qualified students are offered financial aid programs in order to provide access to higher education and personalized academic plans to help them reach their career goals. Prospective students can call 1-888-422-3381 for more information.
