Local School District Announces 2nd Annual Charity Tournament

2010-09-15
SAN ANTONIO, TX, September 15, 2010 (Press-News.org) WHO:
Southwest Preparatory School Educational Foundation

WHAT:
2nd Annual "Fore" the School Golf Classic

WHEN:
Early Registration: Ends Friday, October 1, 2010
Tournament: Monday, October 11, 2010 (tee time 1pm)

DETAILS:
The Southwest Preparatory School Educational Foundation Board invites local golfers to join them on the links for its second annual "Fore" the School Golf Classic.

Proceeds from the tournament, to be held at 1pm on Monday, October 11, at Canyon Springs Golf Club, will help the Foundation further its mission to develop and implement community strategies that will fund learning opportunities and enhance available resources in support of the students and staff of the Southwest Preparatory School District.

2009's tournament raised $5000 for the Foundation. "We were thrilled to see so many people come out to support our students," says Jim Neal, President and Co-Founder of the Southwest Preparatory School District, "and we're looking forward to another great day on the golf course and another chance to bring the community together in support of the school."

The tournament will follow Florida Scramble rules, and in addition to a Silent Auction and a Hole-in-One Shootout, (offering one lucky golfer the chance to win one million dollars), it will also feature a new contest, "Pencil Putting", in which golfers will attempt to hit a target using only a pencil to putt the golf ball. "'Pencil Putting' is something no other tournament has tried before," says Neal. "We thought it would be a chance for our golfers to get into the school spirit by finding a unique and fun way to use school supplies."

Charlie Simons, who participated as a player in 2009, recalls, "We had beautiful weather, a beautiful course to play on, and most of all, a great cause to support. I hope to see even more teams at Canyon Springs Golf Club this year!"

Each participating golfer will receive:

• A homestyle barbeque meal at the tournament's Awards Dinner
• Discounts for future rounds at Canyon Springs Golf Club
• A certificate for a complimentary golf club
• And much more

The second annual "Fore" the School Golf Classic is open to everyone and will be held on Columbus Day, Monday, October 11, at Canyon Springs Golf Club (24405 Wilderness Oak, San Antonio, TX 78245); tee time is 1pm.
