MADRID, SPAIN, June 09, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Russian Avant-Gardes in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collections show gives attendees a chance to explore a fascinating period in the history of art while in Madrid.
Running until July 31st, the exhibition has been organised to coincide with Russia being invited to the Spanish capital's Arco 2011 fair.
It features 35 pieces by artists such as Marc Chagall, Ivan Kliun and Wassily Kandinsky.
According to the organisers, the early decades of the 20th century were a period of unprecedented cultural activity in Imperial Russia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza holds the most important collection of art from this era in the whole of Spain.
In a statement, they said: "The Russian art world sprang to life with programmatic exhibitions, passionate manifestos and theoretical declarations, accompanied by the rise of numerous different avant-garde movements."
Opening times are from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 and 19:00 local time, with standard admission costing EUR8 (GBP7.05) and children under 12 years old getting in free of charge.
The closest Metro stop to the arts space is Banco de Espana.
Art enthusiasts can use LateRooms.com to browse a vast selection of Madrid hotels, such as the Westin Palace Madrid.
