LateRooms.com - Enjoy the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival During a Cotswold Stay

One of the most famous battles from the Wars of the Roses will be re-enacted in full at the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival this summer.

2011-06-15
COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND, June 15, 2011 (Press-News.org) Cotswold visitors have an opportunity to step back in time at next month's Tewkesbury Medieval Festival.

Held in the Gloucestershire town on Saturday July 9th and Sunday July 10th, the annual event is billed as the largest free medieval battle re-enactment and fair in Europe.

Thousands of people will visit the site to recreate the Battle of Tewkesbury from 1471, when forces loyal to the House of Lancaster suffered a crushing defeat by the House of York.

The bloody conflict is one of the most famous battles from the Wars of the Roses and continues to excite historians to this day.

During the festival, the event will be completely re-enacted by up to 2,000 knights in full armour, archers with traditional English longbows and men at arms brandishing swords.

The recreation takes place on the site of the original battle and also includes an authentic medieval market, where 15th century traders sell everything from handmade jewellery and toys to weapons and armour.

In the town nearby, the streets will be decorated with military banners and colourful floral displays to mark the occasion.

People planning to attend the festival can browse a wide range of Cotswold hotel options at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Tortworth Court Four Pillars Hotel.

For more information on this event, visit http://www.tewkesburymedievalfestival.org/index.html.
