PHILADELPHIA, PA, June 16, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Philadelphia Chamber Music Society (PCMS) is pleased to announce the 2011/2012 Joseph and Marie Field String Recital Series, featuring exceptional artists from home and abroad along with two Philadelphia premieres.
Known for his "incomparable performances", German violinist, Christian Tetzlaff, will perform works by Brahms, Bartok and Franck.
Violinist Leila Josefowicz, who's been winning hearts around the world, has chosen a program that includes Falla, Shostakovich, Messiaen, Knussen and Schumann.
Violinist Leonidas Kavakos, winner of the 1985 Sibelius competition and 1988 Paganini competition, will perform sonatas by Prokofiev and Beethoven as well as Auerbach's Preludes for Violin and Piano, Op. 46. Violinist Arnold Steinhardt, the first violinist and founding member of the Guarneri Quartet, will bring a program entitled "Chaconne Anyone," with inspiration from the memoir Violin Dreams. Founding member of the Mendelssohn String Quartet, cellist Marcy Rosen, will be accompanied by pianist Lydia Artymiw with works by Beethoven, Barber and Thuille. Accomplished violist, Kim Kashkashian, will perform an all-Schumann program with pianist Robert Levin.
The Joseph and Marie Field String Recital Series will be held at the intimate Perlman Theater at the American Philosophical Society. Local food and drinks will be available through selected suppliers.
