Gary Caplan graduated from the University of Pittsburgh earning three bachelor's degrees, and later an M.D. and an M.P.H. degree. He practiced medicine for more than fifteen years and had publications in several medical journals before his long time interest in science fiction writing took him to the worlds of Illumaril. Both of his previous forays into the world of fantasy - The Chronicles of Illumaril and The Phoenix Rising are highly praised by critics and fans who now await the release of Return Of The Ancient Ones. The Phoenix Rising was a finalist in the National Indie Excellence Awards, one of only three honorees in the science-fiction category, and now Return Of The Ancient Ones has won the top award for fantasy fiction at the 2011 Indie Excellence Awards and is a finalist in the 2011 International Book Awards!
