HONG KONG, HK, June 22, 2011 (Press-News.org) The Lecture Series on Mahler's Music at the Hong Kong Space Museum will give attendees a broad knowledge of the famous composer's life and work.
Running from June 29th to August 3rd, the six weekly talks will look at the technical aspects of his music as well as the context in which it was created.
Gustav Mahler lived during the 19th century and was acclaimed as a conductor at the time, but it was not until long after his death in the 20th century that his pieces were rediscovered and achieved mainstream success.
Explaining in a statement why the lectures have been organised, the venue said: "To many people, perhaps especially for those who are newcomers to classical music, Mahler, with his symphonies of heavenly length performed by very large orchestras, may not be easily accessible as a composer."
Previously, Jimmy Shiu had been lined up to present the series, but he had to pull out for personal reasons.
Instead, Albert Ho will lead the first three and Li Chi-man will take the final three.
The talks will take place each Wednesday at 19:30 local time and last about 90 minutes.
