In the United States, approximately half of all married couples will end up getting a divorce. Many of these divorces will involve the sale of the family home or the purchase of a new one. While divorce can be emotional, there are specific and practical property issues that must be considered. To help couples through this aspect of the process, an emerging field of real estate agents are specializing in divorce-related property issues.

A real estate divorce specialist is a real estate agent trained to help divorcing or divorced couples get through the process of selling their real estate, usually their marital home and other jointly owned property.

Handling the emotional nature of property issues in divorce is a large part of their training, as divorcing couples may have difficulty deciding on a sale price, disagree on the anticipated equity and be unable to agree on showings.
