WOBURN, MA, August 06, 2011 (Press-News.org) New England Rehabilitation Hospital (NERH), a world-class rehabilitative care provider, has named Dr. Ford Vox as Medical Director of its Acquired Brain Injury Program. The appointment marks the latest milestone in an ambitious plan to expand service capabilities into specialized areas to treat more complicated cases and attain prestigious Disease-Specific Certification in Brain Injury Rehabilitation from The Joint Commission.
"We are excited to welcome Dr. Vox at a time when we are building on more than 40 years' experience in treating brain injury to extend services to the most complex patients - those in unconscious or minimally conscious states," said Dr. Deniz Ozel, Medical Director of NERH.
To support this effort, the hospital recently completed a renovation program to create a unit of 15 private rooms tailored to the specific needs of this patient population and initiated a clinical collaboration with its sister facility, the nationally recognized Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital. NERH's Acquired Brain Injury Program follows clinical practice guidelines, and is gathering data to file application for survey by The Joint Commission to prove that it meets certification requirements.
"My goal is to help brain injury patients and their families achieve a better quality of life throughout the entire recovery process by leveraging the many resources at our command, from the expertise of our staff to our extensive technology," said Dr. Vox.
A Brain Injury Program Development Consultant at NERH since the beginning of 2011 and research collaborator with Dr. Douglas Katz, Medical Director of the Acquired Brain Injury Program at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Vox is uniquely qualified for the position.
Dr. Vox recently completed a Neurorehabilitation Fellowship at Boston University's Department of Neurology and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He trained in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Washington University in St. Louis after graduating from medical school at the University of Alabama. He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the American Academy of Neurology, and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. His writing on health care policy and medical science has appeared in such diverse publications as Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, and The Atlantic.
NERH is located at 2 Rehabilitation Way, Woburn, Massachusetts. For more information about the Acquired Brain Injury Program, call 781.935.5050 or visit http://www.newenglandrehab.com.
