State-of-the-Art Risk-Management Solutions and Learning Management System Help Increase Store Safety and Reduce Insurance Costs

2011-08-12
PORTLAND, OR, August 12, 2011 (Press-News.org) viaLearning, a leader of mobile and online learning services for global companies, announces that together with Grocer's Insurance, Argo Insurance's U.S. grocery and retail specialty division, they have designed, developed and produced a customized Learning Management System (LMS) and an innovative series of Health & Safety online training modules specifically for grocery stores and supermarkets.

"Grocery stores pose a wide variety of hazards for employees; ranging from slipping on wet floors and improperly lifting heavy boxes to mishandling equipment including ovens, fryers, knives and pallet jacks," says Director of viaLearning, Julie Brink. "viaLearning is dedicated to meeting our client's own unique learning environments and business needs through state-of-the-art tools, expert consultation, development, delivery, training and support in e-learning."

Focusing on designing the most innovative and impactful solution, these interactive courses cover general topics and information specific to each department (e.g., Deli, Bakery) providing an easy way for store owners to supply training for their employees at times that are convenient for the learner. Additionally, viaLearning developed a LMS that allows Grocer's Insurance to control access to the courses and allows their customers to deliver the training to their employees and track their progress (Grocer's Insurance does not charge their customers for the training).

Grocers Insurance's online Health & Safety training will show their customers' employees how to increase store safety, thereby contributing to a more productive workplace. "The E-Learning Center provides a structured and consistent method of safety training for our grocery clients," said Grocers President Bill Meisen. "Training promotes safe work practices, increases employee safety awareness and prevents customer and worker accidents, which is the key to controlling or reducing insurance costs over time."

Courses include General Supermarket Safety; Cuts & Lacerations Prevention; Slip Trip & Fall Prevention; Lifting & Stock Handling Safety; Bakery/Deli; Meat; Grocery, Stocker and Receiving; Produce; Courtesy Clerk; Cashier & Front End; Store Management Safety Leadership; and OSHA. Spanish language versions of General Supermarket Safety; Cuts & Lacerations Prevention; Slip, Trip & Fall Prevention; and Lifting & Stock Handling Safety are also available.
