SARASOTA, FL, August 27, 2011

Taylor Morrison and Badger Construction hosted a three-day Homes for Our Troops Build Brigade recently to launch construction of a specially-adapted home for retired Army Staff Sergeant Juan Roldan in Parrish, FL. While in Sadar City, Iraq in December 2006, Staff Sergeant Roldan's vehicle was stuck by an Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFP). The explosion caused multiple injuries including Traumatic Brain Injury, a spinal cord injury, and amputation of both legs. On Friday, August 19 at 8:30 a.m., the Build Brigade Ceremony kicked-off the weekend's efforts to build a new home for Staff Sergeant Roldan and his family. The home was constructed from materials and time donated by those within the homebuilding industry.

"Taylor Morrison has been honored to be a contributor to the Homes For Troops organization and to be able to help build a home for local hero, SSG Juan Roldan of the United States Army," said Taylor Morrison's West Florida vice president of purchasing Kevin Obert. "We at Taylor Morrison feel privileged to be able to give back to a United States Army Soldier that has honorably served his country in order to protect the freedoms and way of life we hold so dearly. Our contributions to this project are a small token of our appreciation of Staff Sergeant Juan Roldan and the sacrifices he has made while in the line of duty."

Obert goes on to say, "Our involvement in this initiative would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication from our office and construction field teams for their volunteerism efforts, the support of our West Florida operations team and corporate leadership, and our outstanding trade partners and suppliers for their generous donations of materials, labor, volunteer time, and money. I would like to personally thank our safety director Dana Pasquis, our strategic sourcing director Jeff Allgood, and trade partners and suppliers including Badger Construction, GE, Kwikset, Builders First Choice, Ken Creel, Little M&M Painting, M&M Insulation, Elan Cleaning, Pat Node Roofing, Mario's Painting, and countless others who have dedicated necessary time and materials required to help provide Staff Sergeant Roldan with a home. It is because of these dedicated and hard working individuals that we were able to successfully contribute to this home."

The team worked together to complete the majority of the work during the three day event, and the home with completed interior and exterior finishes will be ready for move in within a few months. The home was constructed with large door openings and wide hallways, hard surfaced floors, roll-under work areas in the kitchen, a master bath with large roll-in shower and more. The home goes beyond ADA and will provide Staff Sergeant Roldan maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

Staff Sergeant Roldan was eager to share his gratitude for Homes for Our Troops and volunteers: "Having a house that will fit my needs is going to be tremendous; it's going to open so many opportunities for me. There's no challenge that I can't overcome."

Taylor Morrison and Badger Construction worked with all suppliers and vendors to provide materials, time and cash donations to be able to provide the home at no cost to Staff Sergeant Roldan and his family. Once the community learned that the home was being built, numerous individuals and businesses came forward with even more support.
