LONDON, ENGLAND, September 01, 2011 (Press-News.org) Visitors to London this October will be able to enjoy a performance entitled Desh at the Sadler's Wells dance house.
Performed by the Akram Khan Company, it is a full-length solo show by celebrated choreographer and performer Khan, who will be reflecting on life in his home country of Bangladesh.
The name Desh translates as "homeland" and sets the tone for a deeply personal work, as Khan uses his body and voice to evoke various characters familiar from day-to-day life in Bangladesh, while exploring the idea of transformation.
According to a statement by the performer, the show represents his search "for a story that addresses both the tragedy and comedy of life in Bangladesh".
Oscar-winning Chinese visual artist Tim Yip - production designer for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - has collaborated with Khan on the project, as have lighting designer Michael Hulls, Indian writer Karthika Nair and composer Jocelyn Pook.
Performances begin at 19:30 BST each evening, with tickets ranging from GBP10 to GBP36, although discounts are available for those booking in groups.
