BOULDER, CO, October 05, 2011 (Press-News.org) Thirty-two years after winning the inaugural Bolder Boulder road race, and coaching numerous runners to national and world championship status, local running legend Ric Rojas thinks he may be on to another winner.
Rojas has teamed with local entrepreneurs Tony Urquhart and Simon Heart to launch a new running website called RunYourBest.biz. The site features an impressive array of tools aimed at helping runners of all ages and abilities improve their running performance. Urquhart, a New Zealand native and avid runner who has lived in Boulder for nearly 10 years, says he and longtime friend Heart had been seeking an opportunity to combine their skills from the business world with their passion for sports and fitness. Working as utilities industry consultants for over 20 years, he says they were both involved in helping businesses improve performance through a structured approach that included assessments, goal-setting, and performance management - their epiphany was "why not apply the same techniques to individuals?" Urquhart recalls a pivotal night when he was flying home from a business trip and sketched out a model to enable runners to meet their personal goals, with many of the same techniques he and Heart had been applying to businesses for years. The next morning he showed Heart whose reaction was immediately "let's do this as a business."
Two days later he showed Rojas, who said he had never seen anything like it. "It captured the very essence of what a few of us have been saying for years," said Rojas. "Our approach offers a much more structured and holistic approach to running improvement than most people are used to - addressing key psychological factors and the important discipline of planning in addition to the core physiological training elements that runners would expect. I believe our site will be invaluable in helping runners understand their approach to running and where to focus their energy."
Urquhart, who has been coached by Rojas for four years, says at that point he knew they were on to something that could make a difference. Shortly thereafter, he and Heart formed Best Track Global, LLC, started putting their spare time behind the idea, and hired Longmont's BK Media Group to build the web site and bring the idea to life.
Brad Moss, founder of BK Media Group, says his team was instantly charged up about the ambitious project. "The website needed to be simple for the user and provide a "community" feel, yet deliver robust backend tools to effectively assess and track running performance. We knew we had to focus on the uniqueness of this site - it's a one-stop destination for runners to get better and have fun at the same time. This has been a lot of fun and I think it has huge potential."
If all goes well, this may be only the beginning for Best Track Global, LLC, which is setting its sights to be the next hot Boulder business to make it big. "Our mission goes beyond running," says Heart, "We aim to provide simple, low-cost, and highly accessible means for people to improve themselves across a wide spectrum of activities. There are plenty of other things that people want to get better at - there is no limit to this."
