HUNTINGTON BEACH, BAC, October 19, 2011 (Press-News.org) Dawna Lee Heising of Eye on Entertainment interviewed Shriekfest founder Denise Gossett and other filmmakers at the opening night on September 29, 2011 at B52 in Hollywood. Shriekfest, the Los Angeles International Film Festival & Screenplay Competition, ran from September 29 through October 2, 2011 at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood. Shriekfest screened almost 40 films and had 40 screenplay finalists & 9 original song finalists. "Absentia" directed by Mike Flanagan took the Grand Jury prize for Best Horror Feature Film, "Pig" directed by Henry Barrial took the Best SciFi Feature Film award, "Isle of Dogs" directed by Tammi Sutton took the Best Thriller Feature Film award, "The Dead Inside" directed by Travis Betz took the Best Supernatural Feature Film Award. Cimfel and David White and the winner of the Best Sci-Fi Feature Screenplay goes to "Time Wreck" written by Larry Whatcott.
Shriekfest is an international festival and screenplay competition that receives submissions from all over the world. It is a festival dedicated to getting horror/thriller/sci-fi/fantasy filmmakers and screenwriters the recognition they deserve. Back in 2001, Gossett had starred as Angela Travis in the film 'Chain of Souls' and was frustrated by the lack of venues to screen the film so she started Shriekfest. It was an immediate success and now the annual film festival includes screenings, lectures, a contest for best film as well as screenplay, and is an amazing networking venue (shriekfest.com). Moviemaker Magazine voted Shriekfest in the top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee, and Gossett has been voted number 5 out of the "13 Most Influential Women In Horror". Gossett has been in the entertainment business for over 18 years primarily as an actress. She can be seen in the latest Mel Gibson movie "How I Spent My Summer Vacation", "The Last Ride" with Dennis Hopper and on such television shows as "The Office", "The New Adventures of Old Christine", "Samantha Who?", "Veronica Mars", "Fashion House", "Believers Among Us", "Superboy", "Guilty Or Innocent", "The Life of Tonya Harding", "What Should You Do?", a recurring role on "Zoey 101", "Drake & Josh", "Born on a Bad Day", "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant", "Untold Stories of the E.R", The Michael Jackson Trial on E!", "Scene of the Crime", and "The Great Imposter". Denise has also had lead roles in many feature films. Denise started this film festival after starring in the horror film "Chain of Souls". She can also be seen in the SciFi film "Decaying Orbit" and the horror films "La Llorona", "Carnies", "M", "Fright Club, and in the upcoming "The Cellar Door 2: Preymate."
