Clarke Auction Develops a Thriving Business in a Market Segment Other Auction Houses Avoid
2012-02-23
LARCHMONT, NY, February 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) At a time when some of the larger auction houses tighten their belts and become more particular about the items they accept for consignment, Clarke Auction continues to offer a full service estate liquidation service right down to broom swept residential clean outs. As a result, many estate attorneys have found Clarke to be very attractive and easy to deal with particularly for their clients who want a one-stop liquidation service.

Like Sotheby's, Doyle's and Christie's, Clarke also wants to sell big ticket items. Clarke proved to be very competitive in that market in 2011. In May, two Jasper Cropsey oils sold for $880,000. In September, a Jorge de la Vega oil brought $204,000; in the same auction a Tiffany Studios shade sold for $192,000. In October, a Maurice Prendergast oil sold for $168,000.

Commented owner, Ronan Clarke: "These big results were great on auction night. However, it was the $1,000 to $10,000 items that fueled Clarke's best year to date. This is particularly true for Asian, Fine Art and Midcentury Modern offerings for which Clarke has become well known."

Clarke's 2012 auctions continue to bring great results. In January, Clarke broke auction records for an oil by African American artist Daniel LaRue Johnson ($3,000), a Leonard Besser oil ($2,280), an Isaac Witkin sculpture ($11,400) and an oil by Puerto Rican artist Paul Camacho ($4, 080).

Owner Clarke adds: "We encourage estate attorneys, realtors and individuals needing estate liquidation services to consider Clarke Auction. We have a new state-of-the-art gallery in affluent Westchester County, which is an easy 30 minute drive from midtown Manhattan and just a press of the button from a worldwide internet audience."

The auction house runs approximately 16 multi-estate auctions per year. Clarke's next auction is Sunday, Feb. 26th at 2 PM. Previews are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24th and 25th from 12 noon to 6 PM and Sunday, Feb. 26th -- day-of-sale -- from 10 AM - 2 PM sale start.

Clarke is located at 2372 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY 10538. Phone: 914-833-8336. Email: info@ClarkeNY.com. Website: www.ClarkeNY.com
