Nighthawk Ranch in the Movie "Openings"

Nighthawk Ranch is a new camp for cancer, located in the hills Guffey, Colorado. This summer will be their first series of free one-week-long camp sessions.

2012-02-23
GUFFEY, CO, February 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) "Openings, the search for Harry" is a feature-length film, which is filled with interviews from some of the most popular new-age celebrities to have ever graced the spotlight. These interviews are interspersed throughout a story (based on true events) about one's man's search for meaning. Nighthawk Ranch is a featured location in the film's narrative. This special place is depicted as a working ranch in the hills of Guffey, Colorado - a ranch that also serves as a summer camp for kids with cancer. And, although certain parts of this story are fictionalized, Nighthawk Ranch is indeed a place where kids with cancer can spend one week in the summer and have the time of their lives.

Nighthawk Ranch was built and founded by Tom and Dorothy Evans. Tom and Dorothy both grew up on farms and each had big dreams. Mixed with those dreams was a real intention to find some meaning in their lives. So, when Tom discovered that he had cancer (and later beat it), he had the inspired idea to build a place that kids with cancer could go to, a place where these kids could forget they had cancer, to meet and play with other kids who would accept them, and then, together, enjoy an experience they could take with them forever.

Not only did Tom and Dorothy build this ranch, they made it absolutely free for the kids, so that families did not have to worry about a thing. The main facility that is Nighthawk Ranch is a beautiful 10,000 square foot log cabin that sits on 320 acres of rolling hills filled with a whole lot of nature and wildlife, including lots of aspen and deer.

Mark McGinnis, director/producer of the film, met Tom Evans when Tom asked Mark to create a video for his other successful company. After that video was complete, Tom shared with Mark what his real passion was: to give back to those who were less fortunate.

One of the main themes of the film is that life opens up in amazing ways when one begins to open one's mind and heart. Harry, the lead character in the film, begins his journey beaten-down and bitter, but through a series of events and small openings, he finds himself at Nighthawk Ranch. Once Harry is introduced to the beauty and healing nature of Nighthawk, a transformation takes place. This transformational feeling is what Tom Evans discovered about 14 years ago when Nighthawk Ranch was just the beginning of a dream. As Evans shares, "I'm a cancer survivor and when I was going through treatment, this ranch created a great healing experience for me."

Both Tom and Dorothy faced many challenges along the way, but they will be 'opening' up Nighthawk Ranch for its first summer sessions for kids with cancer this summer. They plan on hosting 3 one-week sessions, filled with activities like horseback riding and archery. McGinnis was so impressed with what this inspired couple has achieved that he is thrilled to have captured a little bit of the magic on film. As McGinnis explains, "What Tom and Dorothy have accomplished is at the core of what this film is about. The first step in manifesting the type of life you desire, is to be open to the possibility that it can happen."
