"Dare To Detoxify!" Takes On Toxic Travel

"Dare To Detoxify!" Author and Health Guru Julia Loggins Offers Tips To Staying Healthy On The Road

SANTA BARBARA, CA, March 13, 2012

Whether you're an occasional traveler or a road warrior who spends more time in airports and on highways than you do at home, staying healthy while traveling is as tough these days as finding an aisle seat on an overbooked flight. Away from the teething baby. On a holiday weekend.

Between the simple stress of the trip itself, the lousy food picked up on the run at airport concession stands, drive-thru windows and the hotel bar and the actual toxicity of the recycled air you're breathing on the plane or in your car, your body - and your brain - are paying the price.

In the thirty-five years that detoxification specialist and health practitioner Julia Loggins has spent counseling clients - not to mention the years she spent on the road with a musician husband and promoting her books - she's developed not only a 21-Day Detoxification plan that she outlines in her latest book "Dare To Detoxify!" (Vibrant Health Publishing, soft cover, $16.95) but a list of tips for travelers that's meant to augment her three simple truths of creating a toxin-free body; eat clean and juice often, pay attention to what your colon is telling you and do simple combinations of food for better digestion.

A couple of her favorite "Anti-Toxic Travelers Tips?"

1. Say no to sugar. Actually, say no to sugar substitutes, too! Remember the wise adage of what goes up must come down? That rush of energy you get after eating a frosted cinnamon role, a frothy chocolate coffee drink or a candy bar will eventually leave your blood sugar - and you - crashed. Not only are you putting toxins in your body but that's no way to feel when you're hoping for a great vacation or to close a killer deal on a business trip.

2. Even those of us who juice at home or down a wheatgrass shot when shopping at our favorite health food store tend to blow all those good practices and intentions off when we travel. Don't. You don't need to pack a juicer or blender but, instead, try carrying powdered greens with you. There are a number of brands out there to choose from and nothing will perk you up, let your colon do its job or flood your body with energy like taking chlorophyll. Best choice if you can find it? Wheatgrass juice. It's only one atom different than human blood so, taken on an empty stomach, it really is like a blood transfusion.

3. Don't let yourself get ravenous. It's tough to say no to late-night fried mozzarella sticks at the hotel bar or the double-patty burger at the drive-thru when you're a hundred miles down the Interstate and your stomach is growling. Keep lean jerky - turkey jerky is a good choice - nuts and dried fruit in your carry-on along with a no-sugar-added protein bar. Protein powder is easy to pack and can be added to (organic) juices or water. And don't forget that traveling - especially by plane - is dehydrating and your body will often confuse hunger with being thirsty. Drinking water is a must for hydration, for proper digestion and for colon health. Don't like the taste of plain water? Mix it with a little juice, with a lemon wedge or throw an herbal tea bag into your water bottle and shake; the water will be infused with flavor in a matter of minutes.

Julia's 21-Day Detoxification plan as outlined in "Dare To Detoxify" talks at length about achieving greater health through not only nutritional and eating changes but through colon therapy and food combining for better digestive health and stress management.

For thirty-five years her clients have raved about their success following the plan including management or elimination of chronic illnesses and symptoms, successful and sustained weight loss and, most of all, vibrant energy. Another serious bonus? Looking better and seemingly turning back the clock on an aging appearance.
