AKRON, OH, September 26, 2010

Matt Waterman recently joined a very disctinguished group this week. Matt is among a select few from the area to have attained the rank of black belt in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, an art popularized in the early 1990's by Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer Royce Gracie. Matt is one of less than a dozen people from Northeast Ohio to have attained the rank of Black Belt in the storied Brazilian-based Martial Art.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu differs from other martial arts because of its emphasis on ground fighting techniques and submissions. Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu must display a high level of proficeincy at a variety of techniques and submissions such as joint locks, chokes and takedowns.

Matt Waterman was promoted to the rank of Black Belt by Eduardo "Dudu" Barros, owner and instructor of the Akron-based Dudu Barros Jiu Jitsu Academy. Matt was a long-term student of the Brazilian native who has lived and taught jiu jitsu in the area for over 14 years. "I'm very pleased to promote Matt to the Black Belt" states Barros. "Matt is a great student and has worked very hard to earn this rank."

The Dudu Barros Jiu Jitsu Academy is Akron's preeminent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school. Classes are instructed by 4x Brazilian National Champion Eduardo "Dudu" Barros.
