ROSLYN, WA, April 05, 2012 (Press-News.org) Jassical Music today announced the immediate wide availability of Flurious, a record album introducing 12 original compositions for piano composed and performed by Bill Doerrfeld. This collection of rhythmically charged piano works range from the maniacal to the contemplative. The title track Flurious delivers classical development on a riff from Charlie Parker's Ornithology. Can't Stand It, Every Bit, Shut Up and What Is It showcase impetuous, pounding pulse music with rich harmonic development. Snowgrass Jump is an amalgam of up-tempo bluegrass, jazz and minimalism. The album is also infused with gentler, contemplative piano music including For A While, Almost There, Every Day and Over And Over. Says composer Bill Doerrfeld, "I refer to this group of piano works as progressive pulse music given the strong sense of groove, contemporary classical development and that they explore extremes of loud/fast and soft/slow in a manner that's sure to affect one's pulse."
Availability
The CD version of Flurious is available at http://www.BillDoerrfeld.com, CDBaby.com and by order from brick and mortar record stores such as CD Universe. Digital distribution of Flurious is available on iTunes, Amazon, Emusic, CDBaby and other major online distributors. A 10 minute video preview of the album is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUWvnuCANwI.
Acclaim
Flurious represents the third solo piano album released by Doerrfeld in as many years and is the debut album of some of his more classical-based work. Doerrfeld's first two albums represent works more aligned with the jazz tradition and accordingly have received acclaim from the jazz media. @Critical Jazz describes Doerrfeld as "a tremendously gifted artist whose talent stands any musical test thrust upon it" and "a musical voice that is visionary, futuristic but firmly grounded." eJazzNews describes Doerrfeld's debut album as "an outstanding solo performance where the pianist applies a delicate touch" and that it's "performed with unquestioned elegance." Renowned classical pianist and Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner Ralph Votapek performs Doerrfeld's work in his concerts. Doerrfeld's composition 'Christina' was showcased on YouTube and has received over 450,000 views.
