RALEIGH, NC, May 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) R. "Gray" Kirkpatrick, vice president of Triangle Grading And Paving, Inc. (http://www.trianglegradingpaving.com), has announced the completion of a storm runoff project in Raleigh's Yorkgate community. Triangle completed the $1,897,336 project on schedule, providing a revitalized storm runoff site at Yorkgate, a neighborhood that had been battered by storms over time.
The Yorkgate community had an open stream winding through the neighborhood that was located between the street and the homes. As the city grew, stormwater runoff overtook the open stream and flooded some homes in heavy storms. Triangle captured and contained the runoff while covering most of the exposed damage with concrete. The company employed Christianne McGee, a rock sculpture expert and artist, to create authentic rock formations to replace the storm runoffs. Triangle hand-placed other stones on slope protections to look natural and converted open streams to appear as part of the environment.
The construction required that Triangle remove some existing driveways located between the street and the homes while creating temporary access for each homeowner. The company worked with homeowners to achieve cohesion and maintained traffic flow on the street while relocating existing water and sewer mains.
QUOTES:
"The city of Raleigh had positive experiences with the Triangle Grading and Paving team serving on the major Yorkgate Drive stormwater improvement project," said Scott Bryant, city of Raleigh Stormwater Utility senior project engineer. "The city has also received positive feedback about the project improvements from many residents in the neighborhood. We thank Triangle for its help on this matter."
"We were pleased to have the opportunity to help the Yorkgate community with its stormwater runoff project," said Kirkpatrick. "Yorkgate is a terrific community and with this completed project in place, residents can enjoy an enriched environment."
