PALMDALE, CA, May 23, 2012 (Press-News.org) The winter months have caused death to the American homeless in the past and one tarp company plans to lessen fatalities with tarps for hypothermia prevention. Tarps Plus has been a long-standing contributor for homeless causes and is planning to make 2012 its largest year.
The poly and vinyl tarps are used for covering up from rain and snow. The tarps help prevent hypothermia during the winter months. One tarp will be given out to each person at the shelter. Some clear tarps will also be given out for environmental reasons.
Tarps Plus has loaded up a massive inventory of poly tarps, canvas tarps, mesh tarps and various heavy duty tarps that will be distributed to homeless shelters across the country during the 2012 holiday season. The tarps will be given out at cities with colder climates, i.e. New York, Chicago, Washington DC and Boston. The home of Tarps Plus, Los Angeles will also be one of the locations.
The CEO and founder of Tarps Plus says,"I am more than excited about this year's tarp drive. We have loaded up on our inventory of tarps to make sure each city will have enough for their homeless."
Tarps Plus started supplying truck tarps and canvas tarps to the trucking industry since the 1950s. Now the major tarp supplier specializes in poly tarps, vinyl tarps, hay tarps and heavy duty tarp covers of all kinds. Tarps Plus' main terminal is located in Palmdale California but they have plans to expand a second terminal in Taylor Texas.
Last year Tarps Plus distributed thousands of blue poly tarps and silver poly tarps to homeless shelters in several cities. The 2011 tarps drive in Los Angeles was hosted by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Tarps Plus plans to exceed last year's numbers with giving out thousands more blue tarps and ball bungees. If you would like to be a part of the Tarps Plus nationwide tarps drive you can also donate your old tarps.

Pregnant women, including those who are obese or overweight, should be encouraged to minimise weight gain through diet, according to major new research from Queen Mary, University of London.
Piling on excess weight during pregnancy increases the risk of complications for pregnant women but doctors have been cautious in advising women on ways to manage weight for fear of any adverse effect on mother or baby.
However, the new study published in the BMJ shows that following a healthy diet, overseen by health professionals, stems excess weight gain in pregnancy and reduces ...

A team of life scientists studied 202 genes in 14,002 people. The human genome contains some 3 billion base pairs; the scientists studied ...

DNA barcoding verified the discovery of a highly disconnected crane fly species
2012-05-21
Northwestern Europe harbors one of the best known biotas, thanks to the long faunistic and floristic traditions practiced there. However, some animal groups are far better known than others. The diversity of true flies there is fascinating, and undescribed species of flies, midges and gnats are not uncommon. Because Northwestern Europe was almost totally glaciated as recently as 10 000 years ago, endemic animal species of that region are generally lacking, or are exceptions. Hence, most NW European insects and other species have colonized the area following the withdrawal ...
