Fans "WANT" Their Favorite Bands' Merchandise

Music Stars Innovate with Social Media, Use Technology to Better Engage with Fans

2012-05-24
MARSHFIELD, MA, May 24, 2012 (Press-News.org) Detroit-based Want Technologies is helping business-savvy rock stars connect to their fans through the merchandise they sell online. Musicians and their merchandising partners are adding the Want button to deepen the engagement and sales opportunities on their fan sites and across social networks.

By adding a clickable Want button next to products on their sites, merchants and musicians are giving music fans the opportunity to not only endorse their products, but also express likely purchase intent. This is meaningful for their friends who see it, as they may decide to purchase that product, or something similar, for them for a special occasion.

Because the Want Button is fully integrated into Facebook's Open Graph 2.0, wanted products are seamlessly shared onto fans' Facebook pages where like-minded friends will see the things they want. As a result, friends with similar tastes are also able to discover merchandise from top bands they may not have known existed.

"Music fans are awfully passionate about the acts they follow, and that passion certainly translates to products," said Greg Links, vice president of business development at Want Technologies. "It not only helps to have artists who are forward-thinking, but is also an eCommerce platform that supports digital innovation."

One such platform is GoMerch (www.gomerch.com), which provides custom web design and eCommerce technology to the fashion-retail and music-merchandising industries, allowing them to build and maintain online stores.

"Want just makes sense for products and eCommerce sites," said Mike Conroy, director of operations, GoMerch. "The fact that we sell music merchandise just means more virality to the sharing because our artists' fans like to let the world know that not only do they like the band, but they also want the products, too."

The Want button provides a new and interesting way for music fans to express their desire for a particular product and endorse their favorite artists. Artists such as pop superstars LMFAO, Wiz Khalifa and Trey Songz are just a few who have recently added the Want button to their merchandise sites.

And the metrics have already proven to be impressive: 97 percent of music fans who are Want (www.wanttt.com) users auto-share the products they want to their Facebook pages. After the products are shared, 38 percent of those products are also clicked on by friends.

About Want
Want has changed the way merchants and consumers can interact online. The Want community and Want button provide retailers with a new social commerce platform to bridge the gap from social interest in product curation and sharing to immediate sales opportunities. Want is a highly-social and interactive site that allows users to discover products they've never seen and interact with people of similar tastes and stores they've never heard of but would likely enjoy. Whether it's keeping track of the products they want to buy or receiving personalized product recommendations from like-minded shoppers and friends, Want is designed to create a universal destination for all the products consumers want, no matter where they are found.
