Foundation for Second Chances Receives a RIF Grant from Macy's

After experiencing financial hardships, Foundation for Second Chances has become the recipient of a Reading Is Fundamental grant and will be able to supply more than 500 of South Los Angeles inner-city youth with literacy material.

2012-06-29
LOS ANGELES, CA, June 29, 2012 (Press-News.org) Foundation for Second Chances (FFSC), a community based organization is pleased to announce that it is a recipient of a $ 2,200 Reading Is Fundamental Grant sponsored by Macy's Inc. Macy's has been committed to RIF's mission of educating and empowering children through literacy since 2004. This grant will provide over 500 K-8 South Los Angeles youth books through FFSC's Reading Wheels program.

Foundation for Second Chances' Reading Wheels program aims to prepare and motivate children to read by delivering programming, free books, activities and literacy resources to the children and families of South Los Angeles. With recent federal budget cuts FFSC was unsure of how it was going to supply the youth in its Reading Wheels program with books but this grant will allow FFSC to fulfill its duty.

"The RIF grant came when FFSC faced a serious funding challenge. We recognize the severe impact the loss of the federal grant is having on FFSC programs juggling tighter budgets," said Melissa Wyatt, Foundation for Second Chances Executive Director. "FFSC is thankful to RIF and Macy's for stepping up to support our Reading Wheels program and working to improve literacy in local communities."

FFSC's mission is to use hands-on education, mentoring, health awareness and community service to maximize the potential of youth. FFSC strives to empower youth to achieve and sustain academic and personal success, by developing positive life habits and breaking through limiting societal stigmas.
