Eyeglasses Superstore Eyeglass World Warns Against UV Damage to Eyes

Eyewear superstore Eyeglass World raises awareness about the damage UV rays can do to your eyes and encourages patients to protect their eyes.

2012-07-12
NORCROSS, GA, July 12, 2012 (Press-News.org) Eyeglasses retailer Eyeglass World wishes to raise awareness about UV rays damaging eyes. Most people are aware that UV rays produced by the sun and human sources can cause skin cancer, but too few people understand that UV rays can also harm their eyes, causing a host of problems.

When people are outside during the day, their eyes are constantly being bombarded with UV rays, no matter how cloudy it is. UV rays are easily able to penetrate cloud cover, and they bounce off of hard and reflective surfaces to increase exposure.

This constant exposure to UV light can cause serious eye problems. Cataracts are one of the most common eye diseases in America, and there is a direct relationship between cataract formation and UV exposure. Another issue that can arise is ocular growths, which tend to appear in either the corner of the eye or in the white of the eye. These growths can become so advanced that they obscure vision. Skin cancer on eyelids is yet another issue related to UV exposure of the eyes.

The easiest way to protect your eyes from constant bombardment by UV rays is to cover them with UV-resistant sunglasses. For individuals who need prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses like those sold at Eyeglass World can be the perfect solution. Sunglasses used to protect eyes from UV damage should be both UVA and UVB resistant.

"The sun can cause very serious damage to everyone's eyes," explains Des Taylor, Senior Vice President of Merchandising at Eyeglass World. "The only way to keep your eyes safe is to be vigilant about UV exposure and make sure to use the proper protection for your eyes, like UV-resistant sunglasses."
