WYOMING, MI, July 14, 2012 (Press-News.org) Metro Health will once again hold its annual Metro Way 5K to benefit its amputation prevention program.
The race will be held on Sunday, July 15 at Metro Health, 5900 Byron Center Ave, at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25. Registration will be accepted through the morning of the race. To register ahead of time, visit, http://www.snapregistration.com/110098.
In addition to the adult race, the family-friendly event will feature four races for kids: a stroller heat, 50-yard dash, ages 3-5; 100-yard dash, ages 6-9; and a quarter-mile run, ages 10-14.
The race will benefit the successful Metro Health amputation prevention program. Every year peripheral arterial disease robs more than 150,000 people of a leg and accounts for about 90 percent of amputation in the United States. Peripheral arterial disease, often caused by diabetes, is an excruciating disease that occurs when blood vessels in the patient's legs become narrowed or blocked by fatty deposits, similar to what happens to arteries of the heart often causing a massive heart attack.
