LONDON, ENGLAND, August 02, 2012
THE PLAYGROUND returns once again to its spiritual home of KOKO, Camden to bring the people of London it's biggest line up to date. But this is no ordinary Playground event. Introducing THE PLAYGROUND 3.0. Combining audio, light and 3D projection mapping, THE PLAYGROUND 3.0 experience creates a visual spectacle the likes-of-which no other London club has seen before. And Saturday 8th September sees THE PLAYGROUND bringing together an all-star line-up including PENDULUM, BASSNECTAR, ZEDD, HUORATRON, STENCHMAN and a VERY SPECIAL GUEST to be announced soon.
PENDULUM:
As one of the most recognised names in drum n bass today, PENDULUM make a fitting headliner to an already outstanding line-up. Since the release of the groundbreaking 'Hold Your Colour' in 2005, PENDULUM became one of the first drum n bass acts to achieve mainstream popularity, which lead to a headline performance on Glastonbury's Dance tent and dozens of other festivals worldwide.
After their second album, 'In Silico' PENDULUM became a live band including drums, guitars and keys, giving their sound a more rocky edge and breaking into the alternative scene. Gaining them the mantra of 'The New Prodigy'. And their latest album 'Immersion' became the act's first #1 album in the UK and preceded an extensive tour of headline festival shows and arenas.
PENDULUM have since gone on hiatus while vocalist Rob Swire and bassist Gareth McGrillen concentrate on their new project KNIFE PARTY. But the group has announced a new album for 2014 and will continue to rock crowds with their DJ sets the world over.
BASSNECTAR:
With his eccentric remixes of METALLICA, PIXIES, DEFTONES and ELLIE GOULDING clogging the record boxes of DJs up and down the country, BASSNECTAR is a rare visitor to these shores but that's not to say he won't bring the party. The brainchild of LORIN ASHTON, BASSNECTAR exists as an open-sourced musical project that is as diverse as it is heavy, as raw as it is meticulous, and as fierce as it is imaginary. Collaborating with the likes of KRS-ONE, FEVER RAY, DIPLO, DJ VADIM and many others, BASSNECTAR is a true innovator of modern bass music.
After a long line of sell-out shows, BASSNECTAR never fails to gather monster crowds on the festival circuit. Some of his most celebrated sets took place at North America's top festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, ACL, Bonnaroo, and Ultra Music Festival as well as this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals. We are delighted for him to be with us at KOKO.
HADOUKEN!:
HADOUKEN! have been pushing their sound and maturing musically since the 2008 release of their debut album 'Music For An Accelerated Culture'. Since then, their sophomore album 'For The Masses', produced by NOISIA, gained them international recognition and sent them to festivals round the globe.
Returning with their first single for new label Ministry Of Sound Records on 5th August 2012 "Bad Signal" (produced by up and coming AEPH). Recently Zane Lowe declared, when awarding HADOUKEN! their second 'Hottest Record In The World', it sounds like they have found their natural home. Their position in bass culture is unique, bringing both the live element and credibility in the electronic music field together to create something unique.
Earlier this year, HADOUKEN! released "Parasite" in April as a free download. While "Bad Signal" comes backed with radical remixes from three drum n bass and British house leading lights- XILENT, WIDEBOYS and former PLAYGROUND headliners THE PROTOTYPES.
ZEDD:
ZEDD has been one of the hottest kids on the block in 2012. Gaining underground popularity through a number of online remix competitions, ZEDD (aka Anton Zaslavski) has become a firm festival favourite. This was the foundation for ZEDD to release several official remixes for artists such as LADY GAGA, BLACK EYED PEAS, P. DIDDY, SKRILLEX and SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA. While his hit single "Dovregubben" held the #1 position on Beatport's Electro House charts for four weeks.
One of the reasons for this rapid development is undoubtedly ZEDD's unique and highly recognisable style of composition. It stands out as very detailed and carefully produced Electro House, very playful and at the same time remarkably catchy. ZEDD is definitely an artist to look out for in the future.
HUORATRON:
From the metal-hewn flatlands of Finland comes a dark new force in electronic music. Forged in the electrical fire of industrial, HUORATRON is deeper, stranger and harder-core than whatever you thought was possible.
Starting life in 2003, HUORATRON is the brainchild of DJ/producer/mad 8-bit scientist Aku Raski, and combines the blistering sound of heavy-metal and electronic beats to create a whole new kind of monster. He once described his music as "the smell of something burning." Probably the amps.
After signing to Last Gang in 2010, Raski hit the studio, emerging a year later with Cryptocracy, his first full-length album released in April. He recently opened for SKRILLEX on his L.A. takeover mini-tour, at the headliner's behest. Throughout 2012, expect the cacophony and doom of Cryptocracy to take the UK by storm.
STENCHMAN
The latest signing to THE PLAYGROUND owned BIRTH RECORDS. STENCHMAN has been one of UK's hottest underground dubstep artists for many years now. Donning a mouldy, potato bag on his head STENCHMAN rallies up crowds in a fury with his own brand of electronic dubstep that has left many imitators to shame.
And with the imminent release of his debut EP through BIRTH RECORDS, STENCHMAN is heading to be one of the most popular new faces in British dubstep. Despite no one has actually since his face yet.
BIRTH RECORDS hosts room 2 w/ support from PUNX SOUNDCHECK, OBEY!, NOVA, TRI:BAL, LOST BOYS, MAKSIMCZYK, WORM, TINY BONES and stay tuned on http://www.theplayground.co.uk for more acts to be announced.
