JACKSONVILLE, NC, August 04, 2012 (Press-News.org) Don Mills, president of SIA Group (www.siagroup.net), a full-service insurance agency with seven offices throughout North Carolina, has announced that it has adopted Doris Avenue in Onslow County, N.C., through the North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway Program (AAH). Under this program, volunteer groups sign contracts with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) agreeing to remove litter from their adopted highway stretch a minimum of four times each year for four years. Each adopted section of highway is approximately 2 miles long.
AAH was established in 1988 by NCDOT in response to the growing public concern regarding litter along the state's highways. The program, which is administered by the NCDOT Office of Beautification, is a joint effort between community volunteers and the NCDOT. Its purpose is to decrease the amount of litter on North Carolina's roadsides and improve the beauty and quality of the environment. For more information, visit http://www.ncdot.gov/doh/operations/dp_chief_eng/roadside/beautification/highway/.
QUOTES:
"Community service is very important to SIA Group's corporate family, so we are pleased to announce our participation in this worthy program that will benefit our region," said Mills. "Keeping our roads clean through Adopt-A-Highway is a great way to become involved within the local community, as well as a way to keep drivers safe from hazardous debris."
