"Little Nemo in Slumberland" on the iPad - Sunday Press Books Brings Winsor McCay's Comic Strip Classic to the Digital Screen

Sunday Press Books, in an agreement with CarbonSeven, brings its full-size reprint collections to digital screens. "Little Nemo in Slumberland, So Many Splendid Sundays" hits iPads in November, starting with a Holiday giveaway.

2010-10-05
PALO ALTO, CA, October 05, 2010 (Press-News.org) Premium comics publisher Sunday Press Books will now be offering its series of classic comic strips for Apple's iPad. The first digital collection will be the award-winning Little Nemo in Slumberland, So Many Splendid Sundays. The series will be introduced with a free mini-book preview, Little Nemo in Christmasland.

In 2005, Sunday Press Books took the comics world by storm with the first collection of the Winsor McCay classic to be reprinted in the original size and colors. This Centennial Edition of Little Nemo in Slumberland became the most highly praised book of its kind, with rave reviews from the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, and more, and won the greatest honors in comics: the Will Eisner and Harvey Kurtzman awards.

Now, five years later, Sunday Press owner Peter Maresca sees the iPad as a viable platform to display the giants of American comics. As former creative director for GoComics, Maresca was a pioneer in producing digital comics. "In the dark ages of 2004 it was frustrating trying to fit comic strips into a 2-inch screen, and for a strip like Little Nemo, with its huge panels and incredible detail, it was out of the question. With the large screen and multimedia capabilities of the iPad, it is now possible to appreciate the detailed beauty of this comic and the superb draftsmanship of Winsor McCay away from the printed page."

Maresca plans to migrate the entire Sunday Press line to the iPad, with added material and a multimedia presentation. The production will be done in partnership with CarbonSeven, a new company whose founder has seven years experience in digital comics production. "Peter and Sunday Press are known worldwide for publishing definitive collections of classic comics. Their Little Nemo series is unparalleled in print and we want to ensure that the iPad version lives up to that high standard," stated Jeff Webber, CarbonSeven's president. "CarbonSeven is proud to launch our services with such a prestigious title."

Sunday Press will present its digital titles in three to four chapters per book priced at $3.99 each. All will include extra pages not found in the full-size books. A free "preview" edition will feature a dozen holiday pages from the ten years of McCay's Little Nemo. All will be available through Apple's App Store starting in mid-November.

Sunday Press Books is a publisher specializing in restoring and reprinting classic American comic strips in their original size and colors. More information is available at the Sunday Press website or email: info@sundaypressbooks.com.

Nearly 100,000 vehicles were listed as stolen and not yet recovered as of August 2010, according to the NICB, and 62 percent of those lacked any type of coverage.
